Hay, Hay it’s National Tequila Day!

They say that tequila won’t solve all your problems, but we think that it’s deffo’ worth a shot (or two!) The stuff of dreams, tequila has been there for us when it seemed like no one else was and has shared in some of our best (see insta stories for those) and the worst (see bathrooom floor for those) times in our lives. This National Tequila Day, we’re bringing you some of the best tequila recipes, whether you're a straight from the bottle kind of gal, or prefer a good fruity cocktail that isn’t so bitter you’ll wanna check out these recipes ASAP!

Tequila Sunrise

No, we’re not talking about the new Shawn Mendes song! We’re talking about the gorj’ little sunrise in a glass, Tequila Sunrise. These little drinks of pure joy are deffo’ one that you’ll keep on drinking and drinking without realisation, then probs’ be a bit uneasy when (or if) you stand up!

Ingredients
  • 4 oz Tequila blanco
  • 3 oz orange juice
  • 2 oz lime juice
  • 2 oz orange liqueur
  • 2 oz Grenadine
  • 2 orange wedges
For the Grenadine (Pomegranate Simple Syrup)
  • 2 cups pomegranate juice (or cranberry)
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
For the Rim
  • 2 Tbsp Kosher Salt
  • 2 Tbsp Sugar
To Make the Grenadine
  • Put the pomegranate (or cranberry juice) into a medium pan and heat over medium high heat until reduced by half and you have one cup of liquid. Add the sugar and continue simmering until it is completed combined. Remove from heat and cool completely. Refrigerate for at least an hour.
To Make the Cocktail
  • Combine the Kosher salt and sugar and put on a plate. Using an orange wedge, rub the edge of the glasses then turn them upside down and dip the rims in the sugar/salt combo. Fill the glasses with ice cubes and set aside.
  • Combine the tequila, lime juice, orange juice, and orange liqueur in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake until cold. Pour the mixture into the prepared glasses.
  • Using a small pitcher or a spoon, drizzle the grenadine at the inside edge of the glasses; it should fall to the floor of the glass. Using a knife or straw, mix the grenadine very lightly at the bottom of the glass.
  • Garnish each glass with an orange wedge and drizzle additional grenadine over the top of the cocktail right before serving.

This amaze fruity number is one you’ll be wanting alllll summer long. It’s refreshing taste with a fruity flavour and sour punch makes this cocktail extra unique and one you deffo’ need to try as soon as poss!

Ingredients (makes one tall glass):

  • 1/2 cup Tequila
  • 1/2 cup grapefruit juice
  • 1/2 cup club soda
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar or agave nectar
  • Salt or sugar for rim

To Make The Cocktail

  • Fill a plate with sugar (or salt if you prefer). After wetting the rim of your glass, dip it in the sugar/ salt.
  • Mix all of the ingredients in your cup continuing to stir until the sugar has dissolved into the drink.
  • Add ice.
  • Garnish with fruit.

El Diablo With Pisco & Ginger Beer

A modern twist on a tequila classic, the El Diablo offers a sweet taste with a kick of Pisco and Ginger Beer to really add that lil' something extra to your next cocktail adventure!

Ingredients

  • 3 oz Pisco (or blanco tequila)
  • 1 1/2 oz Creme de Cassis
  • 1 1/2 oz lime juice
  • Ginger Beer (chilled)
  • Thyme sprig (or Lime Wedge)

To Make The Cocktail

  • Mix the Pisco, Creme de Cassis and lime juice in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake to chill. Put ice in a tall glass, pour in the mixture from the shaker, top with Ginger Beer and stir.
  • Garnish with the thyme sprig.

Tequila Old Fashioned

If you're looking for a cocktail that is just that slightest bit bitter with less of a fruity taste, the Tequila Old Fashioned is deffo' the one for you! Featuring the añejo tequila, this cocktail is a must have for your next get together.

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces añejo tequila
  • 1/2 ounce agave syrup
  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 4 drops orange bitters
  • orange peel, optional

To Make The Cocktail

  • Place tequila, agave syrup and bitters in a small glass with ice cubes. Stir gently to combine.
  • Strain into another glass filled with ice and garnish with an orange peel, if desired.
