From a conference call with your work besties to writing a checklist to make sure you’ve ticked off everything you need to do in the day, here’s how to stay focused while working from home.
How To Stay Focused While Working From Home
Use A Planner
If you’ve been thrown out of your work routine and feel like your head is all over the place, stay calm, babe! Use a planner to plan out all the usual tasks that you do in a day and it’ll make it totes easier to visualise everything that you have to do. Tick off all the tasks that you’ve done and then you’ll have totally slayed that first step of how to stay focused while working from home.
Don’t Get Too Comfy
Whilst working from home can be a good thing, sometimes you can get too comfy! Don’t make the mistake of rolling out of bed and then getting straight back in to do your work. A key aspect of staying focused while working from home is making the differentiation of your bed and your work space. Save the bed for the after work antics and set up your work space at your desk or kitchen table to make sure you’re as focused as possible!
Set Ground Rules In Your Shared Space
If you’ve found yourself working from home with your bae or a parent, it’s important to set some ground rules to make sure you both maximise how you work from home. While this is a new concept to a lot of people and you’ve now found yourself stuck with everyone in your household for literally 24/7, divide up the time that a certain person works in a certain space. Make sure not to overcrowd one another and keep your work documents separate from each other!
Turn Off The TV
If you’re a person who gets easily distracted, having the TV on might not be the best thing for you to do. If Netflix is totally your thing, we would deffo’ suggest to turn it off and save it as a reward when you finish your day. It’s easy to sit at your desk and have the TV on and not realise that you’ve been watching it for the last 20 minutes instead of actually doing your work! Don’t wanna hear your keyboard typing away all day? Why not put on your fave tunes or try a podcast? We’re currently loving the ‘Office Ladies Podcast’ (if you’re an American The Office fan, this one is for you!) or opt for ‘The Receipts Podcast’ if you want your dose of daily gossip.
Stay Off Social Media
While it can be super tempting to check up on all your socials while you’re working from home, the best thing to do is just pretend that your phone isn’t there. Set your phone to Do Not Disturb or just turn it off all together! Stay in contact with your work colleges through one specific platform, but don’t go scrolling on your Insta’ feed or Twitter timeline! Save that time for your lunch hour or breaks and you’ll have staying focused while working from home on lock, girl.
Remain Positive
With everything that’s happening world wide, it seems almost impossible to remain positive atm. If you’re worried about COVID-19 and the changes it’s made to your day-to-day life, it’s always important to remain positive and to maintain a focused mind while working from home. If it’s possible, block out the negativity with a Calming App to keep your anxiety at bay or repeat positive affirmations. Be thankful for your family, friends and health at this time.
