Sweet & Sour Chicken
It’s the salt and pepper chips for me. A takeaway classic, when it comes to 6PM on a Friday evening, we are usually holding the Chinese takeaway menu like it’s the bible. However, after looking at our order history on Uber Eats, I think it’s time we took a healthy break from one another. *whispers it’s not you it’s me down the phone to the local Chinese takeaway.* Instead of ordering in food this weekend, why not follow in our footsteps and try your hand at making a homemade Chinese takeaway? Cheaper, healthier and doesn’t taste like sh*t when you reheat it the next day. Winner winner sweet & sour chicken dinner, babe!
What you’ll need
500g of chicken breasts or quorn chicken
½ green pepper, ½ red pepper
2 carrots
1 garlic clove
1 tbsp of cornflour
4tbsp of soy sauce
1 small tin of pineapple pieces
1 tbsp of rice vinegar
½ tbsp of light brown sugar
½ teaspoon of ginger
All you need to do is fry up your chicken or meat alternative and your veg until fully cooked. In a bowl mix together your soy sauce, cornflour, juice from pineapple pieces, rice vinegar, sugar and ginger and add it to the meat and veg. Once fully cooked, serve with some boiled rice and salt and pepper chips and your homemade Chinese takeaway is good to go! Can someone pass the prawn crackers, please?
Spinach, Potato & Chickpea Curry

With ingredients that most of us have in our cupboards, you can get all hot and zero bothered while you cook up this homemade Indian takeaway classic.
What you’ll need
Peeled and diced potatoes
1 chopped onion
2 minced garlic cloves
½ tsp of cumin
½ tsp of curry powder
½ tsp of paprika
1.2 tsp of turmeric
1 tin of chopped tomatoes
2 tins of drained chickpeas
1 vegetable stock
Handful of fresh spinach and coriander leaves
You ready to make a bangin’ curry takeaway inspired meal, gal? Get your chef hat on! All you need to do is fry up the onions and garlic, adding in the tinned tomatoes, chickpeas, vegetable stock and boiled potatoes once they are done. Now it’s time to add a lil’ heat to your dish by adding in all your spices. Boil and zimmer your curry until it is thick then add in your spinach and coriander to garnish and you’re done. Serve this homemade Indian takeaway meal with some jasmine rice and naan bread for the ultimate Saturday night in dinner.
Fish And Chips
Okay, we get it. You miss hittin’ up the club on a Friday night after a long week at work? Nope, we don’t either, babe. We’d rather sit in front of the T.V in our joggers watchin’ I’m A Celeb’ while munchin’ on our fave - a fish and chips takeaway. Complete comfort food that is loved by all across the nation, we are a sucker for this staple British dinner. *chefs kiss*. Add a lil’ gourmet slay to this gravy-licious dish and make your own homemade fish and chips takeaway. With crispy oven chips and mushy peas to garnish, you’ll be living your homemade dish and chips takeaway dream, doll.
Bag of potatoes
Haddock, hake or cod fish
Bag of frozen peas or tin of mushy peas
50g of self raising flour
50g of cornflour
1 egg white
600ml sunflower oil, for frying ½ lemon wedge
Bisto gravy
Impress your bae with you wifey cookin’ skills and make them up a delicious homemade takeaway. All you have to do is cut up your potatoes into wedged and deep fry them until golden and crispy, mix together your self raising flour, cornflour and egg whit to make a batter and then coat your fish until completely covered and deep fry alongside your chips. Add some gravy, mushy peas and a lemon wedge for the finishing touch. Your other half will be deleting the Just Eat app, pronto.
